    The Private Equity group was founded in 2011, and has grown from zero to nearly $2.5 billion in credit facilities in only six years. It currently banks approx. 50 top firms, representing over 400 separate legal entities, and has clients in every major pocket of capital in both the US and in China (where East West is one of the few US banks to have a full banking license). It is now one of the largest specialized industry groups in the Bank.

    We are currently seeking a Portfolio Team Manager for our Private Equity group. This individual will lead a team to support Relationship Managers by (a) collaborating with them in screening new deals, structuring loans, & underwriting credits, and (b) overseeing the portfolio of existing clients, including all of the necessary aspects of the credit process. They will also be responsible for coaching and developing junior Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts.

    • Lead, manage and coach Portfolio Managers and credit analysts with varying experience in structuring credit proposals and underwriting to ensure a high standard of credit quality. Oversee the process of loan portfolio reporting, including to a) collect financial information, interpret financial performance and assess risk exposure, b) ensure compliance with facility covenants, and c) work with Loan Operations to ensure that the reporting is accurately reflected on the Bank’s systems
    • Oversee the entire process (together with the RM and counsel) of documentation, including a) the review of loan docs for consistency with credit approval, and b) working with the Loan Booking unit to book the loan onto the Bank’s system.
    • Assume overall responsibility for the credit quality of the loan portfolio, compile management information, and flag any potential negative trends in the firm or market.
    • Prepare credit packages (including risk assessments, financial analysis, industry summaries, investor backgrounds, and investment portfolio analysis) on both new deals and existing portfolio, and together with the RM, present to senior management with recommendations to mitigate risks.
    • Manage syndicated transactions, including working with syndicate banks (together with the Relationship Manager) on larger transactions
    • Manage the audit process by working with regulators and internal auditors to supply informational needs on client reviews
    • Ensure compliance in credit policies, programs and procedures all within banking regulations. 
    • Additional duties as assigned


    • A minimum 15 years of commercial credit/portfolio management/risk experience in C&I facilities, preferably in private equity
    • Bachelor degree preferably in finance, economics or accounting. Master degree and full or partial CFA preferred.
    • Strong business and financial acumen to define and or oversee department design
    • Ability to interact with senior leaders at both the business units and in the corporate office
    • Requires business knowledge and leadership capabilities to lead a team
    • Able to clearly articulate view verbally and in writing especially when sharing or presenting information.
