    We are currently seeking a Portfolio Manager. The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for underwriting, credit monitoring and portfolio management for the Private Equity group’s clients in the Western U.S., which is one of the largest and fastest-growing portfolios in the commercial bank. The Private Equity group currently manages credit facilities totaling over $2 billion for a variety of private investment firms and funds located in the U.S. and China,. This position will be based in Santa Clara, CA.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the senior Portfolio Manager in a) managing and overseeing the loan portfolio, b) supervising Credit Analysts, and c) assessing the ongoing credit risk and quality, in partnership with Relationship Managers
    • Primary day-to-day contact to respond to requests and questions from existing clients
    • Work closely with underwriting colleagues (including other Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts) in the Newton office (where other members of the Private Equity group work)

     

    • Request and in conjunction with RM, a) review loan documentation for consistency with credit approval, and b) work with the Loan Booking unit to book the loan onto the Bank’s system
    • Working in conjunction with Credit Analysts, a) oversee the collection of loan portfolio reporting and compliance with facility covenants, and b) work with Loan Operations to ensure that the reporting is accurately reflected on the Bank’s systems
    • Prepare written credit proposals for facilities of up to $100MM, including financial analysis, industry summaries, investor backgrounds, and investment portfolio analysis
    • May make presentations on specific loans and participate in the bank's Loan Approval Process, recommending approval and appropriate structure of credits
    • Monitor loan repayment activities and financial condition of borrowing clients and in conjunction with RM take necessary action to collect past due accounts and ongoing repayment ability of all other accounts. May assume overall responsibility for the credit quality of the loan portfolio
    • May work with syndicate banks (together with the Relationship Manager) on larger transactions
    • May work with regulators and internal auditors to supply informational needs on client reviews
    • Manage the renewal process by working with the Relationship Manager, the client, and Credit
    • NOTE: All functions will be in coordination with other team members, and esp. underwriting colleagues, unless specifically stated otherwise
    • Work with Relationship Managers to identify potential opportunities for cross sell of other non-lending banking products
    • Perform other duties and special projects as needed

     

    Qualifications

    • Flexibility and adaptability to a dynamic environment, and ability to learn quickly in a high-volume transaction scenario

    • Must be a strong team player

    • Strong writing, interpersonal and communication skills are critical

    • Assertive and self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously

    • Ideally 4-7 years of banking experience, including at least two years of credit portfolio management experience and credit training

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; preference for finance or accounting major or concentration

    • Working knowledge of private equity and the major components of investment vehicles
