Overview

Management of risks in the first line of defense with close collaboration with all functions, including and not limited to Operations, Compliance, Risk and Audit. Establish robust controls to minimize the business risk while the bank goes through its growth journey. Establishing trusted advisory role and proactively acting on risks and ensuring strong governance of risks.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing meetings with external stakeholders, e.g. external supervisor
  • Responsible for taking appropriate action with respect to:
    • Ensuring issues emerging from regulatory bodies are appropriately actioned, communicated and executed
    • Monitoring the day-to-day activities with a focus on strategic and tactical robust risk management
    • Facilitating effective and smooth communication with other stakeholders and maintaining and developing a robust risk culture across the business with focus on Asia business
    • At the discretion MD, Chief Control Officer and Head of Business Management, empowered with delegated authority / decision-making responsibility on behalf of the business, including but not limited to: Compliance Committees, Risk Committees and AML & all risk related Steering Committees
    • Support Global Banking business on key regulatory matters
    • Develop sound governance including management of the agendas and ensure documentation of Management meetings is of high quality
    • Responsible for safety and soundness related matters as directed from the functional manager and Head of Global Banking
    • Operate as a first line of defense by reviewing processes and controls to identify potential risks and gaps
    • Collaborate with IT, Operations and Risk functions to review control effectiveness

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of related business experience with a strong track record of achievement
  • Extensive product knowledge and expertise across a Corporate, Commercial & Investment Banking platform
  • End to end Operations knowledge and understanding of risks
  • Detailed knowledge of key business/first line controls for corporate banking, payments, cash management and markets business
  • Extensive experience in managing diverse, international and cross-cultural organizations
  • Familiarity with regulatory matters and management of key external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of corporate governance and management of senior management dynamics
  • Must have strong business and financial acumen and be comfortable dealing with complex financial analyses and concepts. Intellectually sharp, capable, and agile. A problem-solver who relies on facts and data to drive decisions
  • Results oriented, exhibits passion for excellence and drives results; conveys a sense of urgency and has the energy to drive issues to closure
  • Someone who persists despite obstacles and opposition; exercises strong self-discipline and shows flexibility in the pursuit of a central goal, despite competing and sometimes conflicting influences
  • Cooperates with stakeholders in Hong Kong and China and builds trusted relationships to mobilize and execute the required changes and enhancements
  • Ability to communicate, through both written and verbal means, to a broad variety of audiences. Able to build consensus in a working group and successfully coordinate and influence those who are outside of direct managerial scope
